At last! The pictures came back from being developed. They turned out great!

I will be telling you about Monday, the 7th of July 2000. The Brest 2000 show had been going on well before that, but I knew that I would really see them up close that I could then beat the crowds and that I could save the admission, that was somewhere around 15 Euros. Most important was, that this was the first nice day for over one week of really bad Breton weather.

We started out in

Camaret: Camaret

Camaret.

Camaret, a small port on the Breton coast, between Brest and Douarnenez, right where the boats were going after the fair in Brest was over. Since we were there bright and early we had a head start on the boats that were to come from Brest.

The most important ship that day was the ESPIEGLE II

Espiegle: Espiegle

The ESPIEGLE II

On this picture she doesn't look that big, but she has a table and a little kitchen in the hull and enough room for 4 people to sleep aboard; not that comfortable, though, so I'd say 3 people snoring away is quite enough.

Commander and first captain of the ship is Joel, Nelly's father, a former Mirage pilot.

Captain: Captain Joel

Joel, the captain o' this ship.

So after filling up the tanks and loading all the food onto the boat we left port at around 9:00. By the time we got to the main route about 30 minutes later there were already some boats waiting, but nothing like the wall of sails coming towards us.
